I grew up in Costa Rica where my love for sewing began at an early age. My grandmother was the first person to put a needle in my hand. She had a sewing machine cover and I was intrigued by the many small pieces of fabric that had been stitched together to create it. Sadly, my grandmother passed away before she could teach me how to make that sewing machine cover.

My sister and I were always in our mother's sewing room. We would play and make clothes and little blankets for our dolls while she sewed. I was very fortunate that the school I attended had sewing classes beginning in the first grade. While I was learning many important lessons at school, my mother was helping me and my sister with our hand sewing and embroidery assignments at home.
